Just an hour’s drive south of Nairobi, easily reached by any car, lies Katelembu—a hidden gem in Makueni County that beckons pilots with its evening magic.
This soaring site comes alive at dusk, with gentle thermals painting the skies, though its charm extends throughout the day when the winds are calm and steady.
A designated landing field awaits at the end of your flight, though the surrounding landscape offers plenty of options for a graceful touchdown.
Katelembu is a place where the skies stretch endlessly, inviting you to glide, soar, and revel in the beauty of the horizon and sunset!
Katelembu is now a PAK managed site, so no takeoff or landing fees for PAK members!
You can pay the caretaker John a small tip if you like though.
- Katelembu is an Evening Flying Site, usually safe from 4pm, for all Skill Levels
- Daytime flying before 4pm is not suitable for beginners due to low level turbulence
- In any case, good ground handling skills are required for fun takeoff!
Drive to above pin and then turn right into small track and park car 50m at the end.
